    Ok guys,

I have hydraulic disc brakes and i was wondering how much performance do you loose when they are hot?

I have Avid Juicy 3's and just installed new front pads so they need bedding in, have been doing alot of starting and stopping adn the brakes are getting quite hot and i seem to loose alot of performance is this normal ?

    Cheers and thanks in advance.

Unless you are being very silly about braking (i.e. dragging your brakes the whole way down) - overheating breaks is not a thing to worry about in Ireland - we don't have anything nearly long/steep enough.

The rotor from a normal descent can get hot enough to burn you - this is not overheating.

Brakes can fade when they got very hot but it shouldn't be a problem. Generally the brakes will need to be a few hundred degrees celius before you even start to notice performance problems. Unless they start glowing I wouldn't worry.

Answer: Not enough that your average rider will notice...

It's only Downhill racers who worry about brake-fade! :D

Sounds like you might need to get your brakes bled. Avid brakes use Dot fluid and should be bled every once in a while. You can get a bleed kit on CRC or any online shop, and its straight forward to do yourself if you are any way mechanicaly minded.

If not, bring it to your LBS and they should be able to do it for you.
