At that sort of budget it's probably safe to go with Canon - ignore the pixel count - anything over 10/12 MegaPixels is a waste TBH.

Moving up the price range, the Canon S95 is just over €400 now - it's a good one.

That's a very good price for a decent camera. You won't go wrong in buying her that one. Any Canon/Nikon/Fuji/Sony/Panasonic camera will be good - they don't make bad cameras. They'll produce good photos and they are simple to use.

You can now get the S95 for less than €300 from Amazon. There has been a significant price drop as the camera is being phased out shortly (replaced by the S100) so it's a bargain for anyone looking for a high end compact. It's not the kind of camera the OP is after though.

Don't buy just because you believe it's a bargain deal, they can be bought for €53 (delivered) on Amazon.

I am also looking for a digital camera. We have had a number of cheapish compacts, but I started with a Finepix 6MP which was ok but not handy. We moved on to a Canon compact which takes good pics but the screen packed in and it was slow. Replaced that with a Fuji JZ500 which my missus thinks is crap, especially in indoor or poor light. So, heading on a scenic holiday next year, and I want a camera that will do justice to scenic sights such as Ephesus in Turkey, Greek islands etc. Was looking at Nikon Coolpix L120 on Argos at €145, but out of stock. Then started looking at other bridge cameras in the €200-300 range. I really want wide angle with plenty of zoom, enough MPs to make enlargements to A4 feasible in a few cases. TBH, I have no interest in the finer points of photography, video and all that so I am looking for the best camera that will do the above without wasting a fortune on a camera I will underuse. Any help appreciated. should I consider charging up the Fuji as it's in perfect working order?

I am now looking at at Panasonic Lumix TZ6 on Amazon at £99. What do you think?

Pixels are meaningless at this stage. ALL new cameras have min 12 million pixels which is enough to print any poister size. L120 is an awful camera. I am afraid any entry level compact is going to struggle in poor light. If you are willing to spend a bit more try the Fuji F500 - Exceptional quality, zoom, lens and wide angle for around €200-€250. I found this site earlier which has it at €205 which is €40 cheaper than Argos AND they are Irish. The Canon SX150 also class camera but dont think they have it. Also a review link below - Good luck with the hunt

Thanks for the advice. I am reluctant to buy another Fuji although I see the reviews are great. My cousin is travelling at the moment with the Canon SX 230HS and he raves about it. £182 on amazon!

What would you think of me booting up the Finepix 6MP or buying the Panasonic Lumix TZ6 on Amazon at £99.

I realise that I should have read the sticky at the top of the forum before posting my inane questions.:o So thanks for taking the time to help.:D
