    Seagate EXPANSIONS

Due to recent worldwide events the prices of External hard drives have shot up and wouldn't you know now is the time that I need one.
Saw this one today in Easons, the price seems good.
Does anyone know if the drive is any good?

Saw the same myself and was going to post. It's a Seagate 1TB external but I'm a little wary of Seagate drives from what I've read online.

There was a WD 1TB one too but that was marked at €125. I saw a HP 1TB drive on the shelf that looked really good but there was no price and I have no idea how good HP drives are.

1st Seagate I owned called it a day after a few months, thankfully nothing too important on that drive :)

Owned a 500GB Medion drive from ALDI and that too failed within the year, opened it up before chucking out, and there was a Seagate inside

I keep away from that brand now, no matter how low the price might be

i have a maxtor (which is now part of seagate) and after 3 years i have now lost 270 gbs of photos, music and films. luckily i have my music on my laptop aswell though. steer clear.

Although hard drives have unfortunately gone loopy because of the Western Digital decision to cease production and the other knock on effects of the Thai floods there is only one solution in my mind on backup and that's to mirror all files 1:1, I have all my files and media on two separate hard drives so if one fails I can simply take out and replace in a few minutes.
As I said, the current hard drive pricing makes this an expensive option, but when it was £52 for a quality 2TB hard drive a short while back it was a feasible option.
To date I've only had one failure (last week!) and that was a SMART/Sector failure of a WD Ears 2TB internal drive which is currently winging it's way back to WD for warranty replacement...

Seagate EXPANSIONS case is one-time use case - there are no screws or clips to open it to replace drive. Useless in my opinion.

Saw a 1tb Hitachi external drive in Tesco (Wexford) today for €67.

As an aside they had webcams clearing for €3.99
