    Well all,
Just read this on the paper:
Egan lightens up for London 2012 bid
BOXING : Ken Egan has confirmed he is to return to the light heavyweight division (81kg) in amateur boxing, the class in which he won his Olympic silver medal in Beijing, writes Johnny Watterson.
Egan moved up to heavyweight this year after he was beaten by Joe Ward, the teenage European champion from Moate, in the Irish Senior championships at light heavyweight.
It was Egans first defeat at that level for a decade.
The Dublin fighter has struggled at the higher weight division and he announced on Saturday he would return to his previous weight category and hoped to earn the Irish ticket in that class for the London Olympics.

I thought the selection was made that Joe Ward would be competing to be our representative at this weight. How could Kenny expect to be selected? Is there another box off on the horizon or could we enter two boxers at the same weight at the next qualifying tournament?

Can't say I followed Egan too closely but did like what I did saw of him in the ring.

He's gettin on a bit (in boxing terms) and movin down in weight, towards the end of a career, is an unusual move. Hope he lives the lifestyle needed to keep the weight off.

    Good luck to him anyway.

Ward beat Egan in this years National finals at Light HW and was sent to the World Chamionships. However he did not manage to secure qualification for the Olympics which was a surprise to many considering he won the Europeans. Egan also must have thought that Ward would make the Olympics and therefore decided to move up to Heavyweight. My understanding of things is that Egan now hopes to beat Ward at the National finals early next year and be selected for the final qualifiers for the Olympics.

I cant see Egan beating Ward to be honest as Ward should only improve (he was 17 when he won last years national title). I wonder is there any chance that Ward might move up to Heavy as he could well still be growing and if anything looks more a natural HW than Egan ever did.

Will Con Sheehan be tempted to drop back to Heavyweight now I wonder. Think he is much better at heavy than super heavy.

Jason Quigley might also be tempted to move up to Light Heavy next year as well seeing as Darren O'Neill has secured qualification for the Olympics at Middle. I could see him giving Egan plenty of trouble.
