Any advice on the best way to tackle this commute? Would be commuting to Swords in the morning and back in the evening. I have my own car but currently commute using public transport..

All buses to Swords (except the 41X) start on the North side of the city centre. The Dublin Bus routes all go from around the Irish Life Mall in Lower Abbey Street and the Swords Express (private) goes from the Laughter Lounge on Eden Quay.

Its a bit of a walk from the Burlo to Abbey St/Eden Quay so you would be better to get any of the number of buses that stop nearby into town to connect.

Darts/Luas no use to you. 41X only operates from Swords in the morning and from Belfield in the evening, so they're no use to you.

I'd suggest you buy a Transfer 90 ticket which gets you 10 journeys and lets you change buses once the final journey does not commence more than 90 minutes after the first one.

Thanks, is it likely to be much quicker to drive? It's a lot more stressful to drive, but if it saves a big chunk of time I'd consider it.

Probably would be if you knew the way (I don't know how well you know Dublin). You would have to get across town to Dorset Street (which might be a little bit tricky) and it's very straightforward from there.

I don't think you would hit heavy traffic as the rush hour traffic would for the main part would be going the other way.

BTW, most buses to Swords stop about 5/10 minutes away from the Business Park. I believe the 43 terminates at the business park, but takes a convoluted way to get there. I never use this bus myself so I don't know the journey time, but I'd imagine it might take a bit longer. If you don't wish to use this (or times dont suit) the best routes to use are any of the 33s(33,33a etc) simply because they don't go through the airport. The most frequent bus is the 41, but this usually goes through the airport and this will add an extra 5/10 minutes to your journey. The Swords Express is a couple of euro more expensive, but will get you there the quickest - however, Transfer90 tickets are not accepted (so you have to pay twice).

If you want driving directions, PM me.

I'm familiar with the route, just not the traffic. Thanks. I thought of some friends doing similar commutes and asked them how long it takes. Seems like it will be between 40 mins and an hour.

I work not too far from the Burlington and I live in Swords and it takes me about a hour to drive to and from work. I think going against the traffic would take 45 minutes at most. Using buses, you'd be doing well if you got there in less than an hour.

The 43 is a relatively quick route via the Malahide Road - it is certainly quicker than either the 41 or 41c which divert via the Airport and River Valley respectively, and the 43 will drop you directly to the Business Park.

    43 timetable is here.

There are 3 journeys however on the 41 (full timetable here) that go to/via the Business Park at 0730, 0750 and 0755 from the City Centre (the last of which bypasses the airport).

There is one return journey on the 41 from the Business Park at 1720 but this goes via the airport.

My advice? Either take the 0755 41 or the 43. Returning the 43 is probably the best option.

The 43 has the benefit of the Fairview/Malahide Road QBC so it fairly moves along. It isn't that convoluted at all, it enters Swords via Feltrim lane so it's not too slow. It should make Swords from town in about 40 minutes but getting into Abbey Street is another story; a trial run or two would be a good idea.

Thanks folks. I'm getting used to the idea of the commute now. I reckon I will probably drive, if I get the job.
