Anyone got any suggestions on a nice city based hotel? Good standard without costing a packet.

I stayed at this place and it was nice http://www.25hours-hotels.com/?lang=en

...but if you had a choice, I would recommend avoiding staying in Frankfurt completely.

Flemings - they have 4 in Frankfurt, really cool hotels. The one nearest hauptbahnhof is in a handy spot.

This a German Hotel reservation service.
It comes up in German. In the top right hand corner
one can change the language to English.

I have used it to find and book rooms in hotels
in Germany, Spain, Italy and Denmark. It worked well for me

My only hotel experience of Frankfurt am Main is the
Sherton Hotel am Flughafen (Airport). It was a
grand place. I do not know the cost. Aer Lingus
    paid for all 90 persons.

I remember that the Sheraton in the city center had excellent weekend deals as most of their business is during the week. Nice hotel as well.
