SEAT Cordoba - engine cut out, but started right away

Just wondering if anyone has any thoughts on this. Car is a 1995 1.4L petrol, has rarely had any issues.

Driving back to Dublin last night, had done about 60 miles of trouble-free driving, and on the Longford by-pass, just after coming off one of the roundabouts, when I put my foot down to accelerate, there was no power, so thinking perhaps I needed to change down (had run through the roundabout at maybe 50-60 kmph in 5th), but by that time, I realised that the engine had cut out. Lights were still on as normal, they hadn't dimmed throughout this episode.

So when I stop, I switch off the ignition, switch it on again, and the car starts up immediately no problem, and does another 60 miles of trouble-free driving to Dublin. Car seemed fine, was responding well to the accelerator, until I got to Dublin, and was driving along the Grangecastle road, along the 50kmph stretch, and was coming up to traffic lights, I could see that the lights perpendicular had gone from green to amber, so hadn't fully stopped, but was allowing the car to slow down itself, my lights went green, and pressed on the accelerator, and again the engine cut out, and I coasted to a stop through the crossroads. Again the car started up no problem, and got me the rest of the way without issue.

Had filled up the car about 100 miles previous to the first cut-out, so tank was about 3/4's full at that time, and fuel consumption is the same as it was when I began driving the car about 8 years ago. All other fluids are at good levels and not mixing. Battery is in good condition. The car has cut out previously after a good dose of water has splashed up into the engine compartment, but the symptoms in that case was different, with the engine starting to splutter before cutting out completely, and won't restart for a few minutes, or until I dry out the distribution cap.

Any thoughts on what to have a look at, or what might have caused it to cut out?
