optimus black stuck in CWM recovery screen

Did some silly fiddling with a view to modding the optimus black with a cyanogenmod rom. Installed Clockworkmod and backed up. Installed the ROM and didn't like it so went back to the previous backup. I made a new folder on the SD card and 'tidied up' a couple of installation files including update.zip I think. The phone won't boot beyond the CWM recovery screen now and I don't understand a thing in any of the guides I've looked up on the web about how to get it back to a working stock rom.

    Help!

Something similar happened to me before. I think the best option is to start again from scratch. Your bootloader is already unlocked, so the next step is to install the clockword mod recovery image. You do that from the boot menu of the phone I think (I've a nexus s). Once you are there, you should be able to install zips from your sd card. You can also copy from the phone to the computer once your at that stage.

I'd love to start from scratch but I can't get anything to work from the cwm menu and I can't access the phone's own boot menu so I'm rightly stuck.

If you have adb installed, you should be able to reboot into recovery using the shell commands I think.

I tried using adb from a console (to be quite honest, I have very little idea of what I'm doing and have kind of blindly followed a few guides hoping for the best) but I wasn't wure if it was doing anything. There was no feedback from the command line so I sort of gave up after 15 minutes.

Have you got all the drivers for your phone installed? I know it may sound silly but sometime's you gotta eliminate the small things!

I had a problem similar to it and clockwork would not install my backup, what I did was re made a new backup on the SD and swapped the files with my previous ones and then it read my backup...

I can do literally nothing on the phone. It's stuck in a bootloop. My friend spent all morning trying everything possible but to no avail. It looks like the only option is to try get the chipset replaced or buy a new phone. Not sure how to break it to my OH that her birthday present, which she had for less than an hour, is dead. :(

Can you still get into recovery ?
Mount SD card and install a rom from that ?

I can get into the clockworkmod recovery screen (this phone has no other recovery screen that can be accessed with the buttons) but when I try to restore a rom from sdcard it completes then restarts and goes to the CWM screen again.

Dunno if this will help ?

Afraid not. That screen doesn't come up Now, after trying to flash the KDZ file for the phone and carrier the phone starts up with a black and white "updating firmware" screen and the LEDs at the bottom flash for a minute before it restarts and goes into a new loop, again with only one screen and no progress, just this updating firmware thing.

Sorry for hijacking your thread pickarooney but im having a similar howler with my girlfriends optimus GT540 phone..... think its now a brick!

I have a thread over on XDA about it, if anyone can give me an idea from here it would be great, I am stuck on the Android screen bootloop myself....

Have you a step by step for running that ADB thing?

Hey man, pulled this from XDA, hope its good enough to help you get to grips with it :

Got my g/fs sorted in the end, turned out I was entering commands in "Download Mode" and not Fastboot mode.....

    :o

N00b mistake but I can only learn from it!

I don't have a fastboot option unfortunately. I'll try ring LG a ring tomorrow to see if they can repair it though the warranty is surely voided now. Probably cost as much as the phone to fix.

Try searching XDA first if you have not done so already, and if you can not find a similar issue try posting here :

Worth a shot before you go ringing LG, as you would probably have no warranty at all anyway at this stage....

Yeah, posted a thread but they're just telling me to try what I've already tried.

    Maybe this guy can help?

  • Moderators, Arts Moderators Posts: 35,739 Mod ✭✭✭✭pickarooney

So eventually I rang LG who had me do a couple of tests and then told me to bring it to a certified repair shop and have them fix it under warranty. They weren't able to, so sent it back to LG. Hopefully in two weeks it'll be back repaired or replaced and under warranty.
The shop said it was the third Optimus Black they'd had in that week for basically the same fault.

Finally got this back today from LG, with a new motherboard, fixed under guarantee
