Overcoats, opportunities to wear them.

So, as the weather gets Sh**tier, I've been thinking on more occasions that I should dig out a nice one I bought in River Island in London a couple of years ago.
Last evening and today I had a funeral to attend which necessitated a suit, and I was damm glad of the overcoat standing in the cemetry today.

So, my question is, apart from when wearing a suit jacket, would you guys wear a 3/4 length or full length overcoat out? I usually wear a shorter jacket, which wouldn't lend itself to wearing an overcoat as well, and Tbh even the short jackets get ruined from being balled up behind seats in pubs etc.

Overcoats give the "prepared for any weather" feeling, and look better than shorter jackets in winter, but out?- as in Sat night out ?

I wear mine on nights out, to work, to the shops etc. I don't really see why you wouldn't tbh.

Always wear a grey one - however I need to have it altered as it's a bit big on me, just slightly big

Have a black one for special occasions etc. then that I wouldn't wear as much.

    +1

I also have a lighter one for those squally summery days and a mac for the warmer days. All good, all classy, all purpose

I've a charcoal 3/4 one, picked it up in Dunnes (of all places) about 6 years ago. One of the best things I've ever bought from the place.

I wear suits (nearly) every day, and I've been wearing it since September. Tis damn warm, and great in wet weather as well actually, as the water doesn't soak into it.

I couldn't get away with a longer one, as I'm a touch on the vertically challenged side.

Just doesn't look as smart as an overcoat when worn with trousers & shirt/suit.

I have two 3/4 length crombies that I wear out quite frequently. They go perfect with either formal work wear or semi-casual going out. Only thing they won't go with is trackie bottoms!

I bought a grey 3/4 length coat from Zara a couple of years ago. It was around ~€180, but well worth it and I receive a lot of positive comments :)
I wear very casual clothes going into college each day so normally I'm wearing a technical raincoat or ski jacket during the winter.

But I like wearing my overcoat at the weekends going into town, going out for dinner etc. or for any special occasions. And it looks great with a scarf too.

I own something not too dissimilar to this:

The second most expensive item of clothes I ever bought was a wool lined mac. It's too nice to bring to a pub. I also have a cashmere coat. both are 3/4 length. same problem. So invariably it's a battered Barbour which looks like the dog slept in it... perfect for kicking under the seat.

thing is, with a nice scarf, they make you look instantly respectible (once you avoid bad shoes / trainers.

Restaurants are fine, but you only bring rags to a pub...

I have a black overcoat and I think it only looks well with a suit. Tried it with dark jeans and it just didn't look right. I suppose it depends on the style and fit.

Mine is similar to the photo above but double breasted, - prefer that look. I had it on out the other night with jeans, shirt and a sweater, and it's just a little big without the suit jacket.

My boyfriend has one and I really like it.

I used to hate it but he never really wore it but I actually think it looks really well. Wish he'd wear it more, he probably thinks I still hate it :o

Tell him :) anytime people tell me I look good in something I tend to wear it a bit more than usual - not too much though, that'd be straight up embarrassing then

I've met programmers and the types of nerds that frequent boards (you're all the same except me, I'm cool), don't you all try and look like you're in the Matrix 24/7 anyway? I thought the ony jackets you'd have would be long overcoats anyway

I have an old overcoat I inherited from my mate. It belonged to his uncle and it was originally given to him but didnt fit him.

i wear it all the time, its so warm, and very heavy, they don't make them like that any more. and has velour lined pockets, yes you read that right.

    its my favourite jacket/coat.

I do has a full length trenchcoat, but wouldn't mind a panzer commanders trenchcoat, as the "V" in my current trenchcoat isn't the best in the wet weather :(
