    I have recently bought a 1.5 diesel.

It uses about 13.5 - 15 liters diesel on journey between Galway & Dublin. Is that a bit excessive?

Dublin-Galway is little over 200km so roughly 7 litres per 100km. That's about 40mpg I think which is ok I suppose. 1.5 dci might struggle on motorway.

These figures might be a little off, just did it there. :)

Depends on the weight it was pulling, your driving style, the outside temperature... Many things! your route as well would help. You can show us using http://maps.google.ie

    20 euro Galway to Dublin

    Sounds about right.

Limerick to Dublin which is the same distance costs me 70 euro up and down, you can't complain:p

Turn off the Air-Conditioning if it is on.

Driving at 110kph makes a big difference too instead of blasting along at 120kph.

Try and be easy on the gas when accelerating and change up gears to keeps the revs low.

Check the air filter is clean.

Interesting, I have done the journey a couple of different routes now. 1 way is to go all the way down to Galway on the motorway. The other way is to turn off at Athlone and go back roads. I did notice that the motorway seems to use up a lot more diesel. Although, I guess thats obvious as I am going faster....

Its a renault laguna; dont know what weight that it; there is nothing in the car, only me.... I drive quite fast (About 130km on motorway).

I notice the revs clock is about 2.5 when 120 and then about 2.75 when I hit 130. Does that sound normal?

This is true; thought i would save slightly more on a diesel. aah well....

Theres your issue. 130/80mph is going to be uneconomical in any car (to varying degrees depending on car etc). Your choice is either use more fuel at 130, or take longer to get there at 100.

130kph is your problem. I drive 1.6 diesel, similar weight car. 120 kph works out to be about 5.5l/100km which is about 50 miles/gallon. Slow down a bit ;)

ok thanks, could be a reason for me to slow down. If I turn on cruise control, does that have an impact? I will check out how I get on if I have cruise control set at 120...

The figures I posted above are for me driving on Motorways with cruise control set to 120kph, air conditioning on and seat heater on as well.

I would def keep the cruise control on. It's usually more economical on long stretches.
