    Hi

I am looking to purchase a tablet as a xmas present but cannot seem to find out if any on the market have a USB port?? I want to be able to plug in an external hard drive to download movies onto etc...
What is my best option? Should I just stick to buying a laptop instead??

    Thanks:)

I bought this one recently and via an adapter it will see external disks thru USB, I think it will only like FAT32 tho, not NTFS

    [edit](including write capability)

Please note that as far as I'm aware the USB ports on Honeycomb etc. only support Read, not Write. ie. an External is fine for movie storage but '**** you' basically if you need to use it to actually transfer something from the tablet to the external, in my understanding.

I used to have the Acer Iconia A500, and it had a full-size USB port. I was able to copy docs from a USB flash drive or hard drive directly to it, or watch movies directly off a drive.

a friend told me you can buy an adapter for the ipad that will have a usb port, why don't you buy the acer a500? I bought the wife one in the states for 400 dollars in walmart. I think powercity or did had them at 400 euro

The thinkpad tablet also has one, although I'm not sure I'd endorse it at this stage. It is on 3.1 and suffers from general lag.

Get the iconia, I bought it in April in the US and I can't fault it.

There's a packard bell version of the iconia (identical just different branding) knocking about as well. I think it's going cheaper then the actual iconia.

You don't necesarily need a usb port. I though that you did but you can use dropbox for transferring files, or most tablets will connect to pc and you transfer through that, just need a memory card slot for the tab and you can put loads of stuff on that. I have the galaxy tab and find it is great, does not have usb port but I can connect to laptop and I use dropbox to transfer files.

Any of the ones I tested in store could read memory stick fine but lacked the power to read an external hard drive.

Asus Eee Pad Transformer can read/write from external drives (including USB powered ones) no problem...I have used drives up to 2TB without issue. The USB ports are contained on the keyboard dock.

Also you can use external USB mouse, CF card reader etc.

Which accessory are you referring to and will it allow read/write? Am specifically interested in playing movies from an external USB drive (WD Passport drive - NTFS) on the Samsung Galaxy Tab 10.1. Will this work?

Note - looking to do on the fly when an internet connection not always available (hence why Dropbox solution may not work)

    Thanks
