I've been culled on Facebook...shouldn't care but I do.

This is an absolutely ridiculous issue but it's upsetting me nonetheless (probably doesn't help that it's Sunday). Normally I don't give much thought to Facebook but I've just noticed I've been deleted by a couple...two aquaintances who'd be from my home town and the guy is the brother of my best friend. I'm racking my brain trying to figure out why they deleted me and only me out of our mutual friends and the only reason I can come up with is some stupid comment I made about Irish rugby on my wall. It was meant as a joke but in text, it could've been taken seriously and if taken seriously, it could be viewed as insulting to Rugby fans and they're both massive Rugby fans. It was genuinely a joke to get a rise that I wrote with a throbbing hangover and regreted immediately.

I don't put too much thought into Facebook generally...I'm 30 and this couple would both be in their 30s as well. I was going to send them a message to ask them but perhaps they just deleted me because we're not that close, which is fine but if that's the reason, my message would be a little pathetic...but I see they haven't deleted mutual friends who they'd know even less than me. I've known them both for about 15 years but were still just aquaintances. I'm flying home for xmas and will see them a fair bit. I want to just clear the air and find out why they've deleted me. Don't want to have a situation where they're ignoring me and I'm trying to figure out what I did wrong with lots of awkwardness when were out socialising. I don't like having bad blood with anyone and wouldn't care so much if I wasn't going to see them so much over the holidays and if we didn't have such close mutual friends.

What would you do? I'm female by the way..

Given that they both deleted you it seems there was a bit of thought put into it. Could it really be over a rugby joke though? Perhaps they were culling friends together and discussing it as they went along. They might know your mutual friends less but as you live abroad it doesn't seem that way.

Yeah its hard to imagine that it was over Rugby. A few of the people from my friends list have done this lately, going through everyone and bringing it back to the people that they see and talk with regularly.

I think people started with facebook and went mad, then realised that they opened up all this information about themselves to lots of people who they don't really know that well. And now they are taking it back. One of my friends deleted his page and set up a new and only picked a few people to add. So I wouldnt worry about it.

I regularly cull my Facebook friends! As the previous poster said, when it started I accepted friend requests from everyone! I accepted a request from a girl from my home town who has never, and would never say hello to me if I passed her in the street!

I delete people that I don't have any Facebook interaction with. What's the point of having people there if you don't contact them? I do it with my phone occasionally too!

I have deleted all my best friend's sisters.. because I don't interact with them at all on Facebook.. they're not my friends!

People think far too much about Facebook. It's a communication tool.. like your phone.

I delete people who post too much 'rubbish'... Do you use a lot of apps and post the results or post very often. I dont think there is much point blocking a persons posts, I just remove them if I dont find what they are posting any way interesting.

Thats exactly what I do. I just defriend people that I dont know too well who are cluttering up my newsfeed with crap. Im not sure if id notice if someone defriended me on it. Its social networking, some people love it, some people hate it, some people dont care about it. Id stop worrying about it if I were you.

OP, you really need to get over it. They are not actual friends of yours so why would they remain your facebook friend? You're 30, not 12, you're being very immature about this in my opinion. I only have people on my facebook who I'm actually friends with, there are lots of people who share the same view as this. Likewise there are people who add every person they know or don't know on their facebook.

It could be any number of reasons - they don't consider you a friend, you post too much stuff that they ain't interested in or whatever.

What exactly did you write about rugby fans? Was it something unneccesarily vulgar or crude? You said you instantly regretted it. It could be the cause, can you give us the gist of what you wrote?

If someone had posted a status like "Rugby fans are ****" I would probably delete that person too because they are obviously an immature child if you get me?

If theres no other reason and it happened after what you said was a regrettable status that could be interpreted as being directed at them, I think its likely that was the cause. It depends on how bad the status was?

OP, you need to get over it go. these people are not even your friends in real life.

i regularly cull people, it you dont interact with me on FB you are gone.

last year i was going through something personal which i didnt want known to the general public, so i deleted a load of people just in case one of my friends said something.

everyone from work got deleted along with random people that i hadnt seen for years
