hi lads im looking for a bit of advice, i have a sony str-k740p and im running a sony hd dvd and my hd sky box off it, now my question is im running the dvd with the coaxial and of course the sound is brilliant but im a little confused cause when i watch a movie on sky box through the optical the sound is not as good ie. sound level on dvd, coax is 42 and the bass will shake the room but watchin a movie on skybox volume level 42 is not that loud? now im usung a cheap optical and a standard coax that came with system, when dvd is playing the receiver will recognise the rear speakers on the display but with the sky box and optical it doesnt seem to recognise the rears on display but sound does come out of the rears and on the display theres is an S between the boxes that are usually Rl RR speakers,

    any ideas lads?

your sky box is only sending stereo, and your sony is muxing it into 5.1, which isn't as good. go into the settings on your sky box and set it to output dolby digital
