Lads i have a funny one with my car 04 avensis 1.6 petrol with 132k miles on it.I have the eml on for a while and brought to a mechanic who said the cat is gone, decided to leave it off and got a service done and got the emissions checked and was told they were as good as a new car.I took it to a main dealer for a service as they had an offer on and they said the cat is gone as well and it would cost 800 euro(500part and 300 labour),has anyone experience of this as i remember threads about people having cats replaced and other parts being the problem.

THAt labour quote for the cat replacements is looney, main dealer is the last place to get one too. IS the EML still on ?

THey won't fail it on the light if the emissions etc are within the limits.

You'd need to be certain that its been diagnosed properly, i.e, if the cat is gone, what has caused it to go.

An aftermarket direct replacement cat can be had from a reputable independant garage for substantially less then €800!

I heard that, what i couldnt fathom is a mechanic saying the emissions were fine as surely if the cat was gone they would be way off.
