    Hi Everyone
Does anyone have any experience on bringing in head that was shot abroad into Ireland? I shot a nice whitetail buck last week and left it into a taxidermist in Minneapolis to be mounted. What law is there regarding the importation and is it relatively straightforward?

says on irish customs regulations; certain goods are totally forbidden;;; Dangerous drugs, plants or bulbs, live or dead animals, poultry, birds or eggs, hay or straw (even when used as packaging) Dont know would a mount be classed as a dead animal (would like to think it was dead)

ah looks like he died smiling. :p
i would imagine all they would have to do is treat it wit radiation to kill all the bugs, i know you can bring stuff in as i have seen a dealers with elephant feet seats and he has a boar and buffalo on the wall too i doubt they were all shot here. well i know they were'nt as i was talking to him about them, but i don't know how you go about getting them in only that you can. thats a nice buck you got there, well done.:)

Once its not a protected animal you shouldn't have any issues (cities cert, export cert from country of origin, etc)

    Nice Buck.

    No real problem getting in.

Word of advice: Get it out of the airport immediately if possible as holding charges can accumulate very quickly, for a small fee can be cheaper to use a customs clearance agent to do this and hold till customs OK it. Dept of agriculture wanted to see mine also, took 3 days to turn up but crates were not opened. Would have cost a small fortune if crates had been waiting at the airport.
Agent picked up crates then shipped them to me for less than we would have paid in diesel and parking had I gone to the airport.
Also, get in touch with VAT people to confirm it is exempt from VAT as it is supposed to be, in writing/email. Charged me VAT on taxidermy fees and shipping fee which had already been paid in country of origin.

Well done, hope you enjoyed the hunt.
The secret to importing a taxidermy mount in the EU is to choose the port of entry. In Ireland these mounts are zero rated for duty but attract 21% VAT on both the taxidermy fees AND the transport costs.
I'm currently awaiting a few mounts from South Africa and am using a logistics company with offices internationally. They tell me that by using their chosen port of entry into the EU I will only have to pay 5% VAT and 0% duty. They will then forward the crate to Ireland.
I'll pm you if you like when they finally arrive and let you know how it worked out.

Well done thats a fine animal. You should have no problem bringing it in, I do know a guy that brought in a mounted elk head a good few years ago. I'd say just get on to one of the cargo handling companies in the airport
