Am I looking at getting a root canal?

So I'm booked into the dentist on Tuesday. Last week I developed some fairly acute sensitivity (to cold) on one of my molars. I'm unable to put maximum pressure on it also...so am doing most of my primary chewing on one side only. The tooth itself was filled in my mid teens, 20 years ago. Looking into my mouth, the filling is intact and I can't see any evidence of cracks etc. anywhere.

Just wondering if the above story points to an expensive root canal solution or could I be lucky?

    Yours hopefully!

She replaced the filling. Gave me no guarantees but said this is always attempted before anything else.

Sound like a sensible plan, give it a chance and see what happens,
