merc e240 rear knocking noise

Well lads. My dad's car has been making this really annoying noise for the last couple of months. It's coming from the rear passenger wheel and is evident any time the car hits a bump or rough spot. We traced it to somewhere around the shock/upper wheelwell area after stripping everything out of the boot. It knocks every time the car bounces back upwards. However it was in for the nct 3 weeks ago and the rear shocks are perfectly in balance. I assume they aren't the culprits so what else could it be if it is something besides the shock. It also had the rear bushings done recently enough so it can't be that...any help appreciated.:D

Lift out the back seat and see if there's anything rolling around there.

    Is the breakdown triangle loose?

No and no. Lifted up the seat but everything is in order there.

What rear bushes did you have done? There are 6 on each side from memory.

Hi I actually fix these cars day in day out and but the sounds of it there's two problems that are common enough on the this model and that's withers broken spring (the nct might not have copped that I've seen that happen plenty) or the shock top mount my guess would be the top mount.although I'm sure others hear will disagree but as I've said I fix mercs day in day out.

it hasn't been fixed yet but we had another look and its got to be the top mount. i was lying in the boot while someone bounced the car up and down and its clearly coming from the top of the shock/mount.just thought i'd let ye know. hopefully replacing it will kill the noise.
