    Hey boardsters.

I am buying a laptop for my gf, and since me being a gamer she always said she wants to try out gaming. Well, I always had stationary rigs so I dont know much about laptops

So would this laptop meet these requirements?
    - Playing World of Warcarft,
    - Playing BF3/MW3 and it's previous titles,
    - L4D,
    - Graphical work like Photoshop, Illustartor, InDesign.

    Thank you in advance

The graphics card is what will determine this and it's not a great one
it will play some of the games you want on low settings but will struggle with games like BF3

Ok. Ehmm, could you pick out a laptop within 500 euro from overclockers?

What your trying to do is pretty impossible on a budget of €500. You'd likely have to double that for a gaming laptop and maybe even trebble it if you wanted a laptop with the latest GPU onboard.

Example 1 with an AMD 5870

    Example 2 with a GTX 570M

I normally see people getting cheap €350-400 laptops and thinking they will be fast, you really need to spend €500-550 to get a good laptop that will last at least 3 years. But if you are going for gaming then I think you'll have to spend a bit more.

PS - I've never played WoW so don't know what it's like performance-wise but Battlefield 3 will need a GTX570 to get the best out of the game or you'll need to turn the detail right down... Photoshop, Illustrator are all 2D and will work fine with most GPUs

    - Playing World of Warcarft, - Should do it easily enough, WoW runs on anything.

    - Playing BF3/MW3 and it's previous titles, - Not a chance unfortunately

    - L4D - With medium settings should be fine.

    - Graphical work like Photoshop, Illustartor, InDesign. - Couldn't tell you.

    maybe something like this http://www.komplett.ie/Komplett/product/ZKB_02PC/02_NOTEBOO/21_15/productdetails/80003313/Asus_15_6_X53TA_SX076V_A6_3400_6GB_640GB/90N71I329H2246VL133C/default.aspx
but they don't have anything until december
but asif2011 says you will need to up your budget to get anything decent

    You sure?

    Right now I am at

    PCU - Intel Core2 Duo e6850 @ 3.00GHz
Motherboard - ASUS Motherboard P5K3 Deluxe
    RAM - 2.00 GB Dual-Channel DDR3 @ 534MHz
GPU 1GB GeForce 8800 GTX (nVidia)

And in BGs, at the heart of battle my fps is 10 :P

Thread can be closed. She doesn't want anything serious, so the I picked will do fine =) Thanks guys =)

You dont need 1000 euro for a gaming laptop, anything with a GT 525m or better will do for someone who's a starter to the whole thing, it'll run even BF3 on at least low if not medium.

That said, 500 certainly won't do for anything bought new.

Look at the XPS 15 range from dell, around 650-800 euro, that'll give you an idea of what you need.

There's nothing on overclockers that fits your budget.

EDIT: That Asus posted above would do also, though its a little weak CPU wise, and it's not clear what the graphics card is, but ifs its the 6650m it'll do.

This Dell Inspiron would be able for older titles and things like BF3 on lower settings, just a little over budget at €550

If you have time to wait there should be new deals coming up on the site in the next few days/weeks where you might get it cheaper.

    or
Within budget and not a bad laptop, capable of light gaming
