Hi! Basically this is my problem, its called Retrognathia (mines actually slightly worse but this is the most similar pic I could find) :

And it is causing ever increasing health problems eg. breathing difficulties etc. coupled with the fact that my teeth are turning inwards and this is making the problem worse and pushing my lower jaw further back and making my mouth smaller.

So I have to do something. Surgery is not an option I have already tried to go down this route and we discovered I am not a good candidate for surgery as there are intubation issues so I need to find an ortho that will do everything they can from a non surgical angle,

Do any of the professionals on here or anyone who`s tackled a similar problem have a recommend for me?

    Hi there

sorry to hear about the situation you find yourself in. I am assuming you are an adult and that things are similar to the pic you posted. If your lower jaw is as small as the picture and you are an adult then there is no hope that orthodontic treatment alone could work.

I would visit a specialist orthodontist and discuss things there. Look up www.orthodontics.ie

I imagine that realistically, surgery is the only answer. I have not heard of a patient that could not be intubated even though it is difficult, new born infants can be intubated so it should be possible.

    good luck

Thanks for the post. Yes I`m 30. I had started the process before had first surgery to remove wisdom teeth and I nearly died after that they said surgery would probably kill me. I`m not expecting miracles just more to stop it getting worse as my teeth turning in is pushing my jaw back further. There is no list of ortho`s with a special interest or way to know who is good or not so that is why I`m here for a recommend.

Dealing with orthognathic issues is all part of the full time masters/doctorate orthodontics programmes so you won't really see orthodontist advertising it seperatly.... As posted before, look up the ortho society website for someone in your area.
    All the best,
    OS
