Is it worth it jumping from the iPhone 4 to iPhone 4s?

Just been offered an upgrade with 3. There isnt much else out there that takes my fancy. Was looking at some Blackberrys but not sure if I want to go down that route (I've heard they have issues with macs).

Is it worth taking the step up?

That depends on a lot of things.

Firstly, how much is the upgrade costing, and how long of a contract is it tying you into? If its for 24 months, then I'd think twice. I have an 18 month contract ending next summer (in time for an iPhone 5, maybe), so there's no way I'd move into a 2 year contract to go from a 4 to a 4s.

Secondly, what do you use the phone for? If you're not interested in the extra power of the newer processing chip (ie. if you're not into intensive 3d games) then the upgrade on the basis of processing power is hard to justify.

The camera is supposed to be an improvement alright, but IMO the one on the ip4 if fine for the type of shots I take.

The biggest (and IMO the only reason to justify the upgrade, if it's your sort of thing) difference is the 4s will have Siri. I'm sure you've seen and heard all about that elsewhere. So make your own mind up on whether you think it worth it for that.

IMO the upgrade makes perfect sense for users with a 3GS or older model: they'll see a massive improvement. But for people on an ip4, it's a tougher call.

Personally, I wouldn't upgrade yet. That's just me, though. I'd be tied to an 18/24 month contract, and about 7/8 months into it the ip5 may be out. I'd be kicking myself. Apple are very clever in the way they trickle out their technology, but a sensinble approach is to upgrade to every second model change, if you can afford it.

I have both, the iPhone 4s is ok, Siri is a bit crap in ireland as it doesn't have local business integration yet, but it is good at sending text messages and good in the car for playing a song or replying to a text.

The camera is very good, like noticeably very good. The iPhone 4 pics are to grainy vs the the 4s pics are smooth and much better in low life.

The phone is noticeable snapper, not 3g to 3gs, but more 3gs to 4, but I noticed that apps load in seconds and web pages are much faster too.

However dispite all these benefits, I find I use my iPhone 4 more, because I use a lot of jailbreak tweeks and I would use them more then I would use Siri. Ill go back to 4s when they release the jailbreak.

I use all the current features on the iphone 4 camera, video etc

Not sure if I would use siri. Never used anything like it before.

I can get it cost neutral if I sell my current iphone and sign up to an 18 month contract.

I could get it with cash to spare if I switched now, but the big deciding factor for me is whether I want another 18 month contract right now, when I know I'll be bursting to get the iPhone 5 when it comes out (probably next summer). An 18 month contract now would basically mean I'd be stuck with a 4S for almost a year after the 5 comes out, and that would really bug me.

If I had a 3GS and was in the same postion, I'd probably go for the new contract, as the 4S would be a massive upgrade. But going from a 4 to a 4S right now would just throw my contract out of sync with future upgrades.

If you don't think you'd use Siri (you should see it in action before making that decision, though), then the 4S won't seem a huge improvement over your 4, so if I were you I'd be happy enough with what I've got and wait for what promises to be a big upgrade next generation.
