    Hey guys,

Just wondering on this for a while,

Have GnP any intentions of making their shotguns again. They seem to have made decent copies of the 870 with a metal body and such.

Is there any other make worth getting besides TM.

Im mainly interested as i want to do a masterkey project and i really only want to build around a "decent" 870.

Thanks in advance for any suggestions. ;)

Aye , their a nice look to them alright and a nice few variations of them made by GnP.

Didnt know they were single shot though. No matter, they seem to be as rare as hen's teeth :(.

Are maruzen any good..? read mixed thing's about them.

    TM m3 clones are excellent.
You could always look at one of them and they're very cheap.

Agreed, the TM are good i was lucky enough to use one before and like it alot, but i have my heart set on having a metal 870 for this masterkey project.

Cheers though for the recommendation ;)

As far as shotguns go, the only real options are the TM, and their clones. They are not metal, but really are the only practical option, barring perhaps the maruzen CA-870 (i.e. their magazine fed variant). The advantages of that is its compatibility with the G&P metal body kits...specifically their masterkey body.

I was after a shell loading shotgun for some time (love affair with the idea of loading shells in - not a lover of having to use a shell catcher to stop them flying all over the shop), and so was torn between the Tanaka Works M870, and the Maruzen version of the same.

The Tanaka Version is universally acclaimed for being fantastic...until it catastrophically fails, and repairs? Repairs are not exactly easy, and requires custom machining - not really ideal for a gun as costly as it. Oh, and not to mention the fact that it's a gas-in-shell system; fantastic if you have the money to throw at the shells, as you don't lose the ability to shoot as long as you have the shells to feed into the magazine tube.

The Maruzen version is more reliable than the Tanaka, and costs less. However it is entirely plastic, and will also eventually suffer the same fate as the Tanaka; a catastrophic failure that is almost beyond the point of repair. Metal body kits by none other than G&P (read; quality) are available, which make it an attractive prospect...especially for a masterkey. Shells are an expense, but not as harsh as that particular brand of bitterness that are the Madbull shells for the Tanaka. The CA-870 does circumvent most of the issues, so if metal is key, then that's your master (see what I did there? ...I'll leave)

Thus that brings you squarely back to the TM and its clones. Since it's a butcher job, the clones would probably be better suited, especially due to its designation as a masterkey. It's not metal, but it's cheap, and more effective than its expensive alternative - the Maruzen CA-870, or the M870.

Fair point's alright, I'll look into TM shottys and see what my imagination comes up with...."scary things at times "

Thanks for highlighting the pro's and cons Kev, it will give me something to think about.

    Appretiate the advice mate :).
