Hannspree SM32LMNB major audio lag?!?

Just got a shiny new Hannspree SM telly for the living room. All seems well except for severe audio lag from its speakers. Hooking the Sky+ up to the old 5.1 via optical cable suggests a good fraction of a second between audio from the TV's speakers lagging the sound from the amp :(

Is this some kind of common issue with (temporarily) running Sky+ to a modern LED TV via scart? Is something defective in the new TV? Is there a hidden menu where you can troubleshoot/configure the audio to lag less? Or do all modern TVs have audio lag issues that the old CRTs did not?

Turn to Sky News , channel 501.
Press services on your Sky remote control and you will see the main menu with Options highlighted.
Using the right/left arrows move across to Settings and press select.
Press the right arrow to highlight the Sound menu and press select.
Use the up/down arrows to highlight Digital Audio Output Delay and press select.
Change the Digital Audio Output Delay setting using the left/right arrows until the picture and sound are synchronised.
Press select to return to the Sound menu.
Press the green button to save your new settings and press sky to return to normal viewing.
