Opinions on Sidi Genius 5 Pro's

As its nearing Christmas I've been plagued by the missus to drop some hints about what she can buy me. This generally involves an item I don't really need, but would like, and would not really fork out the cash for myself. I have a pair of Shimano R087's which have served me well the last year and are still going strong. Been looking at the Sidi Genius 5 Pro's though and am tempted to go for them. Any opinions on these? Would they be a worthy upgrade from an €80 pair of Shimano's or am I just being tempted by the sidi-ness of it all. And most importantly will they make me go faster/ look cooler :)

sidi 5's are a great pair of shoes. Sidi are a great cycling shoe company, so you can't go technically wrong with them.

I have used Sidi all the time, my first pair where Sidi and the were great, fit great, felt great, and lasted great so I have stuck to them.

Thats not to say that the others aren't brilliant but with something as fundamental as shoes (along with shorts, saddle etc) my own view is that once you find something that works for you then stick with that, it is all very personal

Saying that, since its a pressie you really cant lose!!!

Sidis don't fit me, in any size.

I know many more people happy with the fit of Specialized

I bought a a pair of these at the beginning of the year.I love them.
I've done over 10,000k this year. Very comfortable and supportive.
    Be careful with the fit.

I'm in the usual dilemma of probably having to order online as there's aren't many stockists in my area. Heard they are slim fitting but I don't have very broad feet anyway. They do look exceedingly nice though and I'm guessing they'd be a nice upgrade from my Shimano's. New bike gear always makes me want to get out more too. Also, is there a bit of a stigma attached to black cycling shoes, I thought they looked OK? The white ones look nice but I think the world champ stripes are on the heel and I'm pretty sure that's frowned upon unless you are in fact the world champ.

Do you reckon they come up small? Heard some say they do. CSS have a comparison guide and according to that I'd want to go a half size up from my Shimano's. Be better to try them on I know but prob gonna have to take a punt online with someone who does returns.

I have a pair and think they're an excellent shoe. Like the way you can replace parts when they eventually wear out as well. In terms of other options - there's loads but I've bought these for next year

    - definitely not as sturdy as the Sidis but good value at this price and much nicer looking than the Sidis (although I may just be fed up looking at mine after two years!)...

Great shoes - they do this in Mega (extra wide) - Sidis Mega ranges are the best fit I've come across because of my particulary wide feet and high insteps.

Yeah I think I'm getting swayed here. Added incentive to get out on the bike over Christmas too. So, are black Sidi's a no no, think someone said in the thread I seen (possibly here) that it would be a sin to get Sidi's in black

    I have them in black;)

You always have the option of overshoes if colour is an issue

I would definitely recommend you try a pair on before committing to buy, as the fit of different brands of bike shoes can be so different

I love the fit and feel of Sidi shoes too but definately seem to be sized "small"!

Why can't cycling companies just agree on a universal sizing system like everyone else. Hoping to get to try a pair in the next couple of weeks, have yet to see them in the flesh. White ones are nice but the world champ stripes on back are putting me off. Gearing towards these maybe

Anyone used that Retto site above by the way, just stumbled across while searching for pics, cheapest I've come across so far.

Don't be put off, despite TV ad's with naked cyclists cooking bits of plastic the shoes are great. I even own a black pair!

Very narrow be careful wouldnt buy another pair for that reason.
Fit feels ok initally but after 20 mins or so they become uncomfortable and have to loosen straps.... Look the business though...:)

They do have some shockingly crap adds alright. Probably wouldn't look out of place on an Italian tv channel though

Gonna be in Cork next weekend so hoping to get to try a pair on in one of the shops down there. Anyone recommend any good shops down that way, reasonable prices and being a Sidi dealer are a must. Also anyone else heard of the retto.com site I mentioned above, can't seem to find much info on them online, think their Spanish.

Did you get the right size?

Sidi runs more natural and smaller in the regular size than Shimano or Specalized.

Shimano and Specialized have wider toeboxes and heel cups in their regular width shoes.

Sidi has MEGA(wide) and narrow models as well.
Sidi had a 46.5, where as other shoe lines do not have half size increments throughout the entire range.

The heelcup, straps, etc can be replaced on the Sidi shoes.

It's not a size issue, it's the shape. If I get a size big enough to fit my foot in there is an inch or two of space at the end of the toe box and the cleat position is too far forward.

The last time I looked Mega was not available on the superexpensive lustful shoes, only the cheapo models.

The Sidis I bought (and sold on) were the Ergo 2s.

Anyway, I stand by my comment that more riders get a good fit with Specialized.

i have sidi genius pro 5 mega wide and they are great. And i still have my older Sidis which are going strong as well. Only issue I have is the tongue stinks, so I resort to leaving bars of soap resting inside.

What can I tell you? The shape of Specialized shoes is horrible. Also, Fitters don't like them because they can not built up inserts for them.

Sidi shoes are cheaper in Europe than in the US. I saw the top of the line shoes in a downtown Madrid store for ~$250. Plus, I could have a return on the VAT.

One of the guys always buys his shoes on sale from Totalcycling. They have the top line for 200L, right now. Sidi has every size in MEGA, unforunately it seems like Ireland has poor stocking like many Massachusetts stores.
