I use this http://www.kanexlive.com/iadapt20. It's very good but only stereo audio.
Have a look around that site they have some newer products that are very good.

Depends what model of macbook you have. I use a mini display port to hdmi adapter, does full hd and 8 channel surround. Some of the older models don't support audio over displayport i think. Older models still have mini-dvi outputs.
