Right I know the 2nd legs havent been played yet but Irelands win earlier is after getting me all excited so I've been looking at possible outcomes for the pots. Should look something like this..

Pot 1: Poland, Ukraine, Spain, Netherlands
Pot 2: Germany, Italy, England, Russia/Croatia
Pot 3: Greece, Sweden, Russia/Croatia, Denmark, Portugal
Pot 4: Ireland, France, Denmark, Portugal, All other play off teams

Teams in Bold are almost certainties for those pots.

Russia will go into Pot 2 if Croatia don't get two wins against Turkey, or Pot 3 if Croatia get with two wins against Turkey.

Croatia into Pot 2 if they qualify with two wins against Turkey, or Pot 3 if they qualify but not with two wins against Turkey.

Denmark into Pot 3 if Croatia don't qualify or Portugal don't get a win against Bosnia-Herzegovina, or Pot 4 if Croatia qualify and Portugal qualify with a win.

Portugal into Pot 3 if they get at least one win, or Pot 4 if they qualify with two draws and Croatia qualify.

France look likely to go into pot 4 due to Croatia qualifying.

If the draw goes our way we could go far enough, as people said earlier Greece '04

I think we could realistically draw/luck out a win against Poland, Ukraine, Italy, Croatia, Greece, Sweden Denmark, possibly France. (assuming we can't draw Russia?) So teams to avoid are Spain, Holland, Germany, England, Portugal from the teams named above.

    Dream group:
    Ukraine
    Croatia/Italy
    Greece
    Ireland

    Nightmare/great to watch group:
    Spain
    Germany
    Portugal
    Ireland

yeah that hypothetical group for a tournament we haven't even qualified for yet (although it's a foregone conclusion let's be realistic) made me really depressed hahaha. I still think no matter what group we get we'd have a fair chance of qualifying. So long as we get just 1 top team I think we could definitely get 2nd spot due to our bogey style of football. The only teams I don't think we would get anything off are Spain and Germany. We can at least hold the other 'top teams' to a 0-0 (not something I'd be confident about but tis a realistic enough prospect).

Anyway I'm not going to discuss this further because I'd go bananas studying each and every team and possible group. Just gonna wait for the draw, hopefully we get a handy one because I'll be frothing at the gash if we get to knockouts. We could definitely have a good run if we manage to nab a 1-0 off a decent team. Here's to hoping we get a soft group anyway!

I really dont care what teams we get in the group tbh , id just hope we go out to try & win games rather than try to not lose a la Paris a few years ago . No matter what happens, getting out of any group will be a huge achievement.

    So if Irelands group is:

    Ireland
    Greece
    Italy
    Portugal

Would they call it the "Group of Debt" ?
