Hey guys I was just curious about this topic recently and was wondering if someone could shed some light on it for me.

Generally what would the level of boxing tuition be like in most mma gyms/clubs in Ireland? I am just a spectator in the sport so any knowledge of the Irish scene is based off this forum but would I be right in saying that most gyms would have a dedicated muay thai teacher and a bjj/grappling coach ? Would there be many that would also have a dedicated boxing coach also?

If someone was interested in competing in mma in the next few years would there be much difference in competitiveness between someone who spent say a few years training boxing and bjj separately in two clubs that specialise in each then learning how to fit them together or jumping in and immersing themselves from the getgo?

Sorry if the questions seem a bit noobish I was just pondering this lately.:)

As a boxing coach myself I don't think you'll learn boxing in most Mma gyms to a high level, in saying that you'll learn Mma better than if you do boxing and Bjj separate and if Mma is your goal thats the most important thing

I've seen ppl struggle at putting striking together with grappling if they don't train them as one thing

I do think you also need to train them seperatly as well as say for example I'm good on the ground and we do Mma sparring. I would have a tendency to want to take it to the ground. This can hinder my improvement as I would rarely stand

Plus in a boxing club they will not be aware of kick evasive or evading the takedown etc...

    IMO

Thanks for the reply. I was kinda thinking the same myself but was unsure.
