What happens if you hit the toll barrier?

We've all seen it, the easy pass lane closed because some flute drove through the toll barrier before it lifted, or was too slow following someone through.

Anywho, has anyone been there? Who's liable and is it considered a big deal?

A defective barrier came down on top of my car one evening on the M50, I swung back down and gave them a bollocking about it.

Long time lurker here, hit the express lane barrier in portlaois about 6 months ago! Was in a line of cars going through when it just came down, it's on a hinge and fairly well padded so no damage to car or barrier.

Pulled up just after toll and rang the toll company, got a bit of a bolliking for it and told that I was too close to the car in front, that I was going too fast and that my tag was not working! Argued all the points with her and as I was, I looked back and saw a worker come out and swing the barrier back into position.

    Have heard nothing since!

I nearly had one down on me before.

It dropped at the last second. I wasn't speeding and my tag is fine. By the time I stopped it went back up again.

Incidentally it was also at Portlaoise and I've been through it since without any issue

    I think I'm sensing a pattern here.
