Moon XP500 Light interferes with Cateye Strada Wireless

    Hi,

I just installed the Moon XP500 front light on my bike and discovered that my Cateye wireless computer does not work with the light on. The light must somehow interfere with the signal from the computer.

Has anyone else had the same problem and come up with a solution? I will appreciate any comments.

It is on my commuter bike, but I still would like to know my spped and distance covered daily, weekly, whatever ;). I can see the only one solution for this, which is a helmet mount (it is in the package fortunately), but I am not sure if I like that idea...

OP, my solution is to go back to a wired computer. Just one battery, which lasts for years, instead of three, each of which lasts only a few months. I've also had enough of my wireless unit (Sigma 1606-L) deciding when it is and isn't going to work. I've plumped for a Cat Eye Astrale 8 CC-CD 200, very reasonably priced at €26 (though with €10 delivery from bike24, so grab a few other sundries to improve value). I would have opted for the wired Strada but it gets quite a lot of negative reviews here.

Thanks for your suggestion, I thought about it as well and I believe this is the best way to go unfortunately, as the Strada is almost new .

I had a problem with a Ciclosport computer and both Cateye and Smart lights. Interference only occurred when the light was very close to the computer. If this is the case for you also, you might be able to mount them further apart e.g. light on front fork or computer on top tube or even as far apart as possible on both sides of the bars.

Thanks, I have the narrow bars, which is a problem (I just replaced them, as I did not like the standard ones). Will try to put the computer on the top tube and get the wired coputer later possibly.

Is that your new Cannondale? By my reckoning you've now changed the wheels, the groupset and the bars. Have you changed the frame and saddle too:)?

It's a bit like the granny in the toothpaste ad. or Triggers broom:D.

    :D

Hi Paul... Yeah, I may end up changing the saddle as well ...

I am now waiting for a new crankset - same as the original, but with 2.5mm shorter arms. And... no, the frame is still original and the colour is unchanged. And... the seat clamp is original ;).
I just wanted to have a winter commuter bike and I agree with you, I went a small step too far.

I never said that! It looks like a lovely bike for commuting.

What size tyres have you got under those Cruds and do you get much rubbing off them?

I don't have this problem myself but here are some things that you can try.
Aluminum is a good conductor of electricity so if you have aluminum bars and the outer casing of the light is metallic try insulating it from the bars with a piece of rubber tube or tape.
If the problem is caused by EMI (Electromagnetic Interference) try wrapping the body of the light in tin foil to create a screen.

Sure, it is a fine bike, but the way I "built" the bike is... well, a bit silly .

I have standard 23c x 700 tyres and I get some rubbing occasionally if I misplace the mudguards accidentally. They are fully adjustable though and easy to sort out quickly.

Thanks, I think I have the problem sorted temporarily. I will test it later or tomorrow on the road to see for sure. I just moved the computer back down about 3 - 4 cm on the stem and the slightly increased distance between it and the Moon Light is now big enough, so the computer is now working (at least at home where I tested it).
