What do you all think is the correct way to shake hands? Should you go for a firm grip shake , a squeeze or just offer your hand?

I met a few people today , the first nearly crushed my hand so I decided to go for a squeze on the next person but I then nearly crushed his hand :o , the next person I offered my hand and again it got nearly crushed ,

so what is the most common / correct way ?

    Always lead with the left.

Yeah, in between both of the above. Firm enough. Trying to squash someone's hand is clichéd and lame. And weak handshakes show a weak/untrustworthy personality, IMO.

I like a nice firm squeeze

    Same with handshakes

I nearly always let the other person lead, then I respond accordantly. A hand shake means jack shit. I have had the most honourable people shake my hand in a weak way. You can't read much from it.

Can't stand a weak handshake, shows you're afraid or nervous or something. Shake my hand properly for christ sake.

If it's a first meeting a full on kiss is in order coupled with a crotch grab........they will never forget you.

Wrap around their wrist then point my finger at them with a thumbs up.

I read somewhere that a weak handshake is hereditary.

Agreed 100%. It's hard to know how to go into it, so I let the other person go first, if I feel a tight grib then I grip hard, if soft then soft it is.

Go to Catholic mass, I think they insist on making random strangers shake hands with each other there.

Best thing to do is offer your hand with your thumb pressed down to the side of your hand, instead of open to receive the person's hand. This causes much confusion and ends up with the person awkwardly clasping your wrist.

Secret handshake. If you don't know it, you're not in.

    FYP.

    Books n' stuff.

Maybe they were talking about a shaky hand rather than a handshake.

I prefer to let the other person put their hand out first, then i just stare at it until everyone feels uncomfortable.

Why does anybody give any thought into this?
You hear this talk about handshakes sometimes, and I just don't get it.
Who cares how you shake someone's hand ffs?!
    Classic first world problem.
