What would people recommend regarding applying for a new job while currently employed?
Is it ok to mention by name your current employer on both C.V. and cover letter?
Is there any risk of the person you are sending the C.V. to contacting your current employer or is this something that they can't/won't do?

    This is perfectly normal.

    Yes, absolutely!
In fact if you leave them off your CV it will read like you are unemployed and you will be less likely to get the job as your experience will be less.

Very little risk. Contacting a current employer without permission would be considered very poor practice.
Unless you put your current employer down as a reference the should never call your current employer.

Exactly what Irish_Elect_Eng said. Just put down "references available upon request" at the bottom.
