Waited for the 18:30 No. 3 UCD-Larkhill bus at UCD last week to go to Sandymount, it never showed up so had to get a taxi.

Today I asked @DublinBusNews on Twitter if there would be a repeat.

Answer: Yes, cancelled 'will not operate' yet again.

Nothing on the website and the timetable still shows it running on Mon-Fri.

I've had similar with the 13:30 running of the 4 into town, only runs every second time I wait for it. sounds like there could be staffing issues.

This 18:30 No.3 bus, leaves Larkhill at 17:15, and changes driver at Parnell Square at approx. 17:40, the new driver then completes the journey to UCD,having just come back from his break. If the bus doesn't show up, then I would imagine that some major problem has occured, an accident or some such incident. This bus really should not be missing, maybe a few minutes late due to traffic on Strand road, but that's all.

It will however operate as normal tomorrow,as I will be driving it.;)

Good to hear that, thanks for the update.

Interesting that your colleagues in the DB commnications department prefer 'will not operate' instead of the more pithy 'cancelled' in much the same way that the ESB won't say 'power cut' when 'interruption to service' has a far less negative ring to it.

The problem with buses not running is more often down to staff shortages in depots and bad unrealistic schedules being created. With many of the newer schedules, there is not enough time for the driver to complete his journey in the given time, therefore to try and bring the bus back onto schedule, a journey or section of a journey may have to be dropped.

Most drivers are great and will operate away even if they are late. Then there are those who demand to be regulated, even if they are only a few minutes late. The courteous drivers are the ones that we as passengers tend to forget ... sadly.

I think you are a bit early...

The 18.30 bus is now in Belfield and will depart in 10 minutes.

Was wondering how long it would be before you would poke your nose in, and it did leave on time at 18.30 exactly.
