What Type Of Prisoner Should The President Meet?

President Higgins has said that he hopes to meet all those on the margins of society, including prisoners. Visits to custodial institutions would need to be handled very carefully so as not to offend victims. What sort of prisoner would be appropriate, or inappropriate, for a presidential encounter? Terrorists, sexual offenders, murderers, drug dealers, burglars, white collar criminals(if and when they are imprisoned) etc. would be very problematic.

Personally I think it's rather strange for the head of state to wish to meet any person who the state wishes to exclude from society.

Oh my God,where will this all end.....Mr DeValera understood far better the function of Prisons.

This sounds like numptyness gone berserk.....where would ye start.....Persons convicted of crimes against poetry perhaps..? :o

Men, it has been well said, think in herds; it will be seen that they go mad in herds, while they only recover their senses slowly, and one by one.

Everybody knows what wonderful people prisoners are.
Is Higgins going to ask the victims of these animals what they think first?
How about he meets John Gilligan, Catherine Nevin, the Scissors Sisters, Joe O'Reilly and Mark Nash?

I wonder if he will be meeting any unemployed plumbers, electricians, labourers, painters, masons, carpenters, subcontractors etc from the building trades or are people like these too contamionated by being associated with the construction industry ?
Maybe he could ask Eamon Gilmore to ensure that the school the site was sold for goes ahead ?
