New Qualification procedures for worlds

Sounds like a good initiative, may boost the field in the 10,000m, although not substantially as many of the top 15 finishers may not target the 10,000m at the worlds. The one drawback for me personally is that the defending champion no longer has an automatic entry as they can be overlooked by another qualifier via these new rules. I think it's always great to see the title holder trying to defend their title. However, for the most part, this should not be an issue and all in all a good addition to the qualification procedures.

This only applies if the WC and DL winner are from the same country also then it comes down to the countries discretion and saying that majority of countries would opt for th WC I say

I'm not so sure, I'd say the likes of Athletics Kenya would opt for the in-form runner over an under-performing world champion, which is totally fair and understandable, same goes for American and Jamaican sprinters. However, it would still be nice to see the defending champ get a chance to defend his/her title, so long as they aren't injured.

Anyway, it seems like only the Kenyans/Ethiopians in the distance events, Jamaicans/U.S.A. in the sprints and maybe Russia/Germany in the field events perhaps will have this dilemma in terms of selection and whether they send the world champ as wildcard or another performing athlete. What a pleasant dilemma to have......anyway we should see the majority of world champs there as defending champs (either through automatic or wildcard entries). I for one am happy with the new qualification rules.
