Multi-room without a second box?

I'd like to split my Sky+HD box from my living room into my bedroom. Its directly overhead and we are talking a maximum distance of about 15 foot between the box and bedroom tv. I'm not however getting another box. I'm already paying for my parents premium subscription as well as my own and Sky are pocketing almost a hundred a month from me.

I remember seeing second remotes and some little gadget available with them years ago that would send a signal to a second TV. Are they still around and work on a HD box? The 'changing channels independently' thing isn't a problem as I live alone.

What your looking for is a sky magic eye, the one I got works fine with the HD box, think I picked it up for around €15

Ebay is your friend. First line of the search results shows one for 6.99 with free postage from and Irish supplier.

Excellent. Thanks very much fellers :)

Edit: something has just occurred to me, I'll be receiving the second signal via an RF cable. The picture quality will be quite poor in comparison to the main TV, won't it?

I think the amount of cable involved makes a difference , i've got about 20m of cable between the 2 rooms, the picture isn't as good but saying that my TV upstairs is a piece of crap.

I'm (if the courier arrives :D) swapping the TV upstairs for a slightly smaller version of what i have downstairs tonight so i should be able to get a good idea of any difference in picture between 2 similar TV's.

Hmmm. Would it be possible to hook the magic eye up (just for the remote control functions) plug the hdmi from the sky box into an automatic hdmi 2 way switch box and run a hdmi to each of my tv's then?

Or does the Sky box use hdcp protection?

The Nikkai Reciever from Maplin is outstanding. Those magic eye yokes are a nuisance(They were for us anyway). The Nikkai yoke was set up in 5 minutes and the TV picture upstairs is as good as the one downstairs. You have all the SKY functions available on the TV upstairs. The transmitter sends the signal to the box downstairs.Brilliant piece of equipment.

yep, that would work but you would still need the coax for the remote.

But I'll be receiving the HDMI quality audio/visual signal, yes?

You'll receive whatever the HDMI connection is carrying.

I thought the Nikkai doesn't work with the Sky+ HD box only the regular Sky+ box.
