Have to wonder how accurate their valuation is, considering they sum up boards.ie with "It contains content about , "Poker"."

    £2.7 million.

Not too shabby, too be honest I would have imagined more though.

    "Visitors by City"

Typical that Athlone would be at the bottom of yet another list! :P

I'd say with the recession, 1m would be more like it. Its an Irish site and i cant see much interest from outside Ireland, and were all fubbed.

They may have been reading AHs, where poker becomes "poke her".

Could boards be worth €2.7 million?
I know its certainly worth something. But would it really be in that ball-park region?

Suppose then again, due to its userbase if it were ever to get sold it would raise the price up.

Its worth about three fiddy in all fairness. Or a stick of juicy fruit.

Apparently the third most popular nation on earth the users on here are from is India, they make up 5% of the total. Ahead of the whole of the UK at 4.5%.

    Spam. India's largest export.

The truth emerges and maybe Mods aren't the selfless, unpaid volunteers I thought they were. So perhaps this is more like their 'working' day on Boards.

I don't trust that site's valuations. I have a crappy website that generates less than one euro per month (I'd give a link, but I don't want it to seem like I'm spamming); and it says it's worth £506.99.

If anyone wants to buy it, I'll see it for an even £500.

Then I have a personal website that gets about 10 hits per day. Nothing special at all. It's valued at £1,086.31 - it earns significantly less than one euro per month.

    I'd sell that for £1000.

But nobody in their right mind would pay it.

valuation just means what it would probably cost to buy the website, and all of the rights and ownerships. It doesn't reflect how much revenue the website actually generates, which would be a fraction of that.

I agree that valuation includes more factors than just revenue. But, ultimately, the value (from whatever valuation method you use) is what you can reasonably expect someone to pay.

I can make a website that says my house is worth 10 million euro - but that doesn't mean anyone would pay 10 million euro for my house. I don't think the site's valuation (at least on the two sites I tested) is near what any reasonably person would pay. It seems very inflated.

If anyone wants to prove me wrong, and buy up my sites, let me know :)

That site some how reminds me of when the internet was getting popular regular people registered domain names like madonna.com etc. Heard some were taken off people ... while others sold them to companies. Smart move :)

    oh useless internet fact #235
World Wrestling Entertainment (WWE) holds the rights to www.payperview.com Very smart of them registering it years ago. I'm sure there are a ton of companies and sports (boxing, ufc etc) that would of loved to get their hands on it.

    People *still* do that :(

And it's pretty annoying. I was working with a company that wanted to launch an education website for children and I'm telling you - every domain name that sounded like it had anything to do with games and kids was already registered, but only about 1 in 10 actually were websites. The other 90% were just generic 'parked' domain pages filled with ads and a 'click here to buy' link.

Its kinda like real estate but on the internet, isn't it. Buy something so if someone comes along and wants it they gotta pay. Realistically, how long would you be waiting for someone to make you and offer tho.

But what I really hate are sites that pray on your misspellings. Such as you leave at a latter in facebook.com and it brings you to a page with same layout saying "you are their 1,000,000th visitor winner!" :pac:
