    Entertaining....hmmm..kind of !

Interesting......Yeah, some of the stuff they turn up is.

Realistic..........Some of the values they claim for the stuff they find seem excessive to put it mildly !

But its the morals of the whole idea of these sales that i wonder about. When you see some of the stuff that is found, goods that are genuinely valuable, cash, it makes me wonder what happened to the owner? Why didnt they come back to the locker and cash-in some of their stuff rather than just lose the whole lot ? I wonder how many times was it a case of someone who fell ill, died or an old person who was sent to a home ?

Yes the value of things they find is rubbish, and they all have major egos apart from barry.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,643 ✭✭✭SHOVELLER

Americans keep an incredible amount of stuff in storage and if they dont keep up payments on the locker is auctioned.

I used to work for a moving company moving in and out of these lockers. Not a good day when you found out it was a storage unit!

    BTW Brandi is hot.

Barry donates any money he makes to charity, amazing the lack of knowledge that the others have about antiques for people suppose to be in the trade.

Barry seems like the coolest guy ever, he has a great car collection! Apparently Dave Hester is holding out for more money for the next season.

Watching the Texas version now but it's not as good.

How much do the guys make?
Brandi and Jarrod really annoy me. They are bordering on trailor trash :D

Brandi is hot, I would say YUUUUUPPPPP!

    Barry is the most entertaining.

    According to http://www.celebritynetworth.com

    Dave Hester 2.5million dollars
    Barry Weiss $9 Million
    Jarrod and Brandi 700,000
    Darrel sheets: $1.5 Million
    dan dotson: $3.5 Million

Barry is so cool some of the stuff he owns and has come across is is mental. Eg the head statue. Dave is a prïck, darrel is a hot headed muppet and B&J are doing ok for themselves. Makes for entertain tv.

I could watch this show all day long

I had a few of these recorded last month on Sky+ (from the History channel), and there was an episode where Dave and Jarrod were having a go at each other - it was uncensored, so it was a motherf**ker this and f**k that screaming match for a good 20 seconds straight. Those two REALLY hate each other.

Texas Storage Wars is growing on me. Not a big fan of Lesa, Ricky or Bubba, but Moe and Victor are great characters.

History Channel had that idea last Sunday.

Two observations: Brandi has a great pair and Dave Hester isn't a particularly nice chap.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,556 ✭✭✭Slunk

    Brandi is HOT.
I actually think Dave is entertaining.
That storage hunters on Dave is a poor substitute

typical analysis of a unit by dave - "oh we got a used tea bag there maybe $200 - $250"

Darryl is just as bad, he pulled out an old CRT monitor once, "Thats 80 dollars right there all day long" *high fives the son*.

I feel like I might be going against the consensus here but this is the worst show ever produced. I watched an episode of it once and felt dumber for having done so. Every single character is ****, the script is ****, the setup is ****.

Whats worst I think is that its not even that bad an idea for a show. Admittedly, the real deal is probably too unevenful to make a show out of it without a script but seriously... this is awful.

On a sidenote, what happened to the documentary channels? they dont seem to actually show many documentaries anymore, its just pawn stars, hardcore pawn, american pickers, american restoration, ice road truckers ad infinitum.

See thats just not true .Evidenced by Hardcore Pawn in your own post. Also, have a look at operation repo.

Anyone seen American Guns on Discovery? Thats the worst, agreed about all the documentary channels completely losing it in last couple of years, its as big a disaster quality-wise as when MTV stopped being about music. It pays more to do it this way I suppose.

 If those are worse again ill make sure to give them a miss!

Oh God I don't know what it is about this show but I could literally watch it all day long - this and Pawn Stars. And actually I have done on one very long Sunday a few weeks ago! :D

I love Barry, I hate Dave and can't be bothered about the rest of them, but just seeing what they find is intriguing enough to keep me glued to it.

As for Pawn Stars - Chumlee?? Seriously??? Someone actually hired him!

I love when Dave calls his employees the Yupps.

High quality documentaries are very expensive to produce, archive costs a lot and the viewership (and hence the ad revenue) not as much as from Storage and Pawn Stars etc, you could say the same about the likes of CH4, it was known for smart, investigative documentaries and non mainstream dramas in the 80s and 90s now its cheap and tawdry "reality shows" its just a sad sign of dumbing down, if I want good docus nowadays I use Netflix, tons of amazing ones on it such as Herzog's Into The Abyss.

I'm hooked on this like most other things on the History/Discovery channels...

a few things bug me about it tho, why are there always crowds of people at these auctions but only the same people doing all the bidding ie the *stars* of the show ...alot of extras in there me thinks to make up the numbers

also the end when they tally up the "profits"...it's made to sound like money in the bank...errr don't they still have to find a buyer, a buyer who'll pay the price!

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 18,159 ✭✭✭✭phasers

well if every random nobody bought the lockers then there'd be no real point in watching. Plus the auctions are all day long, there's more than 3 units for sale.

In the newer episodes though you can tell that some people are just there to get on telly and it's really annoying.

Yeah there'll have to be plenty of other sales we don't see. Like the British auction programmes, they only follow the relevant ones.

Check out "baggage battles" along the same lines as storage wars, it's on <SNIP>
