I've built up quite a collection and I want to thin the herd by about 90 DVDs,need to with Christmas fast approaching. I tried the new e2Music place on College Green a month ago with a list but they never got back to me.

Maybe someone else can help but i'm guessing you're a bit late to the party. Dvds and cds are like cassettes and video tapes now...obsolete!

I sold off the majority of mine plus cds about 4-5 years ago. Was probably lucky to get what I got for them at the time even though it was a pittance...on the plus side I still got my music in digital format.

    Regards

You could get 90 euro store credit in Gamestop if that's any use to you...

You probably wont do much better than that to be honest. 1 DVD = €1 store credit these days.

Adverts.ie might - might, if you're lucky - help you rake in more than one euro per DVD. Could be a potentially stressful experience.

TBH, unless you're desperate for the few euro which is understandable, you're going to be taken out the back and taken advantage of by most places these days.

I don't think it's even a case of being taken advantage of - they take them in for €1, sell them for €2. It's handy and it's a fair enough price since dvd's have dropped so much in the last few years.

I got rid of about 60-70 dvds recently - got store credit for them which is fine. They were just sitting there on my shelf not being watched so basically a waste of space. I'm trying to narrow my collection down to films I watch at least once every 12 or 18 months. If I don't then it's going to be sold.

Wow, that's not too bad, I didn't think anywhere would take them at this stage.

To be honest, there isn't really much point holding on to the rest, only a matter of time before the players become obsolete too.

I plan to hold on to mine so that one day my grandkids will marvel and grandpa's fossil collection.

e2 on College Green, Dublin do, I think. No, I don't work for them.

    Yep, they do:

I've used their other outlet in the past before it closed down. They're quite a ways less insulting than other mainstream, trade-in options.

Oh, and CEX on Liffey St. You can even gauge the prices you'll get by checking out their website:

Yeah and once you're departed they'll pop them in a rubbish bag for collection outside the front wall. :D

Well I sold about 15 today for €15. The guy wanted €3 for the boxsets (Three Colours, Aeon Flux Animated Collection, Memento 3-Disc Edition (proper rare one) so I told him I'd keep on to them. Felt I got a little less than I thought. Gonna check CEX and see what the beef is with them.

Back in 1986 people started saying the same to me about vinyl.

    They were wrong.

Never died despite the record companies' best efforts. Second hand market thriving.
New vinyl sales increasing every year since 2000 or 2001.

DVD isn't really the same as vinyl though, is it. Fair comparison would be a cd...

Ouch, had no idea they'd buckled down. I got 20e for 10ish CDs in their old Mullingar outlet. Them days be gone, I suppose.
