Have you ever used a website like this to get 'free' stuff?

The youtube thread yesterday reminded me of this. I signed up for a referrals website last year.
For people who've never heard of that it works like this: You choose what free gift you want. You have to do an offer (I did the screenclick free trial) and then you have to get other people to join and do the same. You 'buy' stuff like laptops, ipods etc depending on how many referrals you get.
Anyway, it's a marketing scheme but it tells you that before you join. Both the company providing the offer and the company providing the free gift are getting new customers by it.
I finished my offer but didn't bother with referrals and then forgot about it. That's why it's not exactly free, referrals are hard to get.

Anyway, AH, have any of you tried a website like this before? And did you actually get anything from it?
