    Hello,

So my 4S might just be sitting there and suddenly the "ding" sound effect goes off.

    (1) The Sound Effect is not linked to anything in the sound section
    (2) There is nothing on the screen
    (3) There are no Apps with anything next to them(like when App Store has updates with the #1)

    What the heck is it?

Nope, like I said "Ding" is not linked to any App or any function on the phone as far as I can tell / or as far as I have selected anyway.

It has to be some Notification set up by accident. Go through them all in settings, one by one.

Is it a 'Delivered' or 'Read' notification in iMessage?

That's what it was for me.

    DFD.

Email would be obvious as there'd be a badge on the mail app.

Have you got Facebook? Next time you hear it go into Facebook chat. For me it makes a dullish ding but with no notification or badge, but sure enough someone's just sent me a message thru Facebook chat.

Not necessarily that obvious - it would depend on what alert style was set in the notification settings, if the badge app icon isn't set to 'on' no badge would appear.

Definitely not email as I read them straight away and the normal sound effect is the typewriter.

Also not the reminder to read it from the lock screen because...........it's not.

Last night I deactivated all the alarms from apps even though they were part of the "not in notification centre" items.

    Let's see what happens today.

I was haiving this issue for weeks, was wondering what it was.
Turned out it was one of my notifications for Pay Pal, it was just a little "Ding" noise.

Go into your notifications, and one by one, check each one to see what ones have noise activated, and you may be able to limit it down to a game or something.
