Efficiency...Gas or Oil?

I am moving to a new house with gas heating which has a communal gas tank supplying the whole estate. I have already learned this is slightly cheaper than oil per litre but does it burn more or less efficiently than oil?

If the Estate is getting a bulk deal then LPG is more efficient than oil if the system is well balanced with good controls as a gas boiler modulates.

The question is how efficient is your heating system.

All fuels - propane or methane or oil - can be burned 100% efficient.

Without knowledge of the return temperature of your heating circuit no one can give you an answer to your question.
Contact the previous owner or seller and ask how the present central heating system was designed, esp. the return temperature.

Modulating and condensing oil boilers are available in Ireland too, not only gas boilers.

Contact a heating engineer and ask for a written and signed expertise if you don't trust architects, estate agents and builders. I would do so myself if I wasn't entirely clueless.

I gather what your wanting to know really is would it be cheaper to stick with the communal system of gas or go with your own oil.

I imagine you would need to see the agreement for whats covered but per unit gas is more cheaper and cleaner

But then again oil is more simple to work on. For example a new burner is a lot cheaper than most boiler parts.

tbh if it were me i would stick with the communal system
