Learner permit fines

When a learner permit is caught driving without a full licence holder with them they can be fined a minimum of E1,000. What safeguards are there to protect the driver from getting a much larger fine from a judge having a bad day? What criteria is used to determine the fine?

In all the information I have read on this they quote the minimum fine for a first offence but I cant find information regarding a second offence. There seems to be no clear guidelines on this.

It's up to the judge on the day. If he's having a bad day, then you will be too. The idea of the law and the penalty is to discourage people from doing it in the first place, and after that, if they are caught, they are at the mercy of the court.

I would assume that a second offence would get a much more serious penalty.

Its ridiculous that there are no clear guidelines for this.

    Learner permit holder? :)
When a learner permit is caught driving without a full licence holder with them they can be fined a minimum of E1,000.

    Surely a maximum of €1,000

THOUSANDS of learner drivers face having to pay fines of up to €1,000 after being caught driving alone or without having an 'L' plate displayed.

/scrubs with steel wool and Jeyes Fluid for quoting the Indo.

It's fairly simple, have a qualified driver with you and you wont need to worry about the guidelines in place for fines

doing a google search for indo articles brings up 2 relevent articles on the first page. The first one says fines up to E1,000 and the second says a minimum of E1,000. The offaly cc site says a minimum E1,000.

It seems there are no stats to see what the average fine is unless someone can point me in the right direction?
