Joule 2.0 not reading power

    Hi All

My power tap was inactive for a couple of months but when i use it now its only reading Hr and speed no cadence or power. When i was last using it i had it on my TT bike with the sensor for speed only. I think i changed the settings so it would not be "looking" for the hub.

Could anyone tell me what i did and what setting i have to change to get it back working with power?

    Thanks a mill

    John

Have you re-paired the speed sensor - are you getting speed readings on it without the power? If so, have you re-paired the power meter and ensured it's the active one?

So waht you are saying is 'no I have not changed the batteries'

Change the batteries and try it.

Had the same problem Marco... assuming that the hub is paired.. its the batteries. I replaced the batteries (which were supposed to be fine) and I was grand. Make sure you get the Silver Oxide ones, the regular ones I am told don't last very long at all...

The batteries were only changed a few months ago, there is nothing coming up on the joule display to say change the batteries. the fact i am getting speed from the hub and nothing else is confusing me

Ok i will chance changing the batteries in the hub and hope for the best

The hub is very sensitive to the batteries. For sure silver oxide only. And I had to use contact cleaner on it every second battery change too to keep it working well

Do you have access to another computer that can read power (eg Garmin 500, 800, 705). If so, you could see if you can get any reading with that

Also have you had the hub serviced recently? Any new bearings for example? I had a problem with my Powertap because the spacer between the hub bearings had been put back the wrong way round

Marco, one of my teammates had a problem with his battery compartment, it looked spotless and problem which I later had also, I was able to very lightly rub down the contacts with a bit of Sandpaper and that sorted it. He had to send his back to the manufacturer in the UK to be sorted (corrosion in the batter compartment was the diagnosis - although it looked fine). It was actually the local bike shop that sent it off to the manufacturer despite him buying the wheel online.

Good suggestion above actually to try it with a different head unit, surely be a few Garmins on the Ballymac spin, failing that, I have one down here you can try out if you are in the neighbourhood.

I am not sure about the joule 2.0 but the old power tap yellow head unit had a 'bike computer' option which disabled the power readings. Perhaps the joule is the same?

Edit: also check the torque offset, you may have a knackered torque tube... Happened to mine 6 months ago, has to send it off and have the internals replaced.

    Contact cleaner can work wonders.
