Have a look at www.vomino.com I wonder how good it actually is? Does anyone have any experience of this?

The ATA they supply seems to be a Grandstream 286 ...... but no I never heard of them until this thread.

Also 1st time I hear of them but never tried them, I wonder how long the been around. Prices are very good for €40 you can get unlimited calls for a full year.

Looking in comreg you can see some details http://www.askcomreg.ie/erau/temetel_limited.0.0.987.details.LE.asp

Also they do not list if we can call some special rate numbers like 1890, 0818, etc or their prices.

I wonder if I register with a computer account, can I configure a Sip software on the Iphone or my home Voip router.

I think will need to register and test.

I would be concerned with this:-
Free Vomino to Vomino calls at all times

which implies to me that they have (in some manner) blocked free calls to other SIP users ..... of course it might be possible to overcome that, but I still don't like the practice ...

I found no connection details anywhere on their site, so it appears that they have the ATA preset with their connection details and possibly not editable?

I would suggest it would be more economical to buy an ATA, sign up with one of the many companies offering Free calls to specific locations and PAYG.

    EDIT:
Update ...... found this ..... which gives the needed details for using a SIP client - Linphone shown as an example

Got a free account and tested to dial some number and I can dial all 1890, 1850, 0818, etc with the 30 minutes included in the trial. So even worth it to get a year account if you need to call numbers like Sky and some other companies that only give 0818

I wonder if other numbers like 1513 could be dialed, anyone had a 1513 number to test? :D

Their mobile call rates are very much on the high side IMO .... when compared to other providers available on VOIP.

I do like the fact that mobiles are included in the US & Canadian free calls though ;)

U.S. and Canada mobile numbers are always treated (for payment purposes) like landlines, regardless of CLEC used. The model is different there. The mobile user pays for both incoming and outgoing, unlike Europe, where incoming is always free. Provided of course you are in your local area and not roaming.

I joined Vomino 3 months ago and the service is excellent. I tried several VOIP companies in the past but none of them was really cheap. They were charging connection fees and per minutes billing.

With Vomino, I do not worry about expensive short calls where I was charged connection fees and a full minute for few seconds’ calls to Voicemail.

Have you any affiliation with this provider?

The fact that there is no phone number and address on the website worries me. When I ring the number registered with comreg I get an authorisation error.

Plain simple stuff but seriously important if going to need for business or for reliable use.

Yes true there's no address information, when you register for a trial account the email includes the address as below,

I thought that Irish companies also need to include their vat number and other information on their website.

Also just noticed something you need to display your number for the number in the comreg to work, if you have it hidden doesn't work.

I am looking for a better offer than Vomino but I cannot find one. If anyone knows a better VOIP offer, please let me know. I have no contract with Vomino, I can move to a different provider if it has a better offer.

Depending on your usage different providers will suit better than others.
Here is a price comparison page for the Betamax providers which might give you some idea of what is available. There are of course other providers not listed.

The offer is the best I seen for a long time, €39 for a year of unlimited calls to landlines with trial account I could dial 1850, 1890, etc also free landline calls in EU and for US and Canada also free calls to mobile, free ATA worth €30, how can they make any money? been such a new company I wouldn't risk porting my number as they might disappear at any stage and could be left without service and number.

If they are around in a few months with same offer/prices and feedback is good I will consider switching over.

I'd be curious what happens on day 366.

Good question, if they still around hope the prices are about the same or cheaper than others VoIP providers .

Yes, it does look to good to be true, we ran foul of their fair usage policy yesterday.

The missus calls her Mum on a UK landline. The message from Vomino was "You have used more than 28 hours since the 01 January 2012, it more than 25 times than average user."

Either my maths is wrong, or Vomino are defining 'average use' as being just an hour and quarter in a 12 day period and will smack you if you go over that.

    So much for 'unlimited use'.

We've also had several issues calling numbers and getting an engaged tone when they are actually not engaged.

It's early days for us with Vomino, but at this rate it looks like we'll probably go back to voipcheap.

Did you contact them about it? love to know what the reply will be.

EDIT reading T&C's see the below, still need to find out more info on the part of "spends more time than 25 times the average usage (as determined by the Business)"

    Vomino wrote:
The Service is provided subject to a fair usage policy even where it is stated by the Business that use is “unlimited” - accordingly, we would consider an abuse of fair usage to be more than 45 calls in any 24 hour period or where a user makes more calls or spends more time than 25 times the average usage (as determined by the Business). Where this sort of abuse occurs, the Business will request you to reduce your usage. In some circumstances however the Business may (and in its sole discretion) suspend the use of the Service or terminate this Agreement altogether. The Business also reserves the right to charge you for such excessive usage.

    Hi

I used them for a while with the trial account, never had any problems. I wouldn't port straight away, register test it with the €5 credit you get and if you are happy port, even register 2 or 3 trial accounts.

Also check Blueface is more expensive but been around longer, their webpage is more user friendly and can see call history plus add extensions, you could not do that with Vomino when I did the test.

Who ever you go with do a few test calls before porting your number over.

thanks for that nava, will have my techy husband have a look and see what he thinks as we will need to get that started as they say there is a 4-6 week time frame for porting a number

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 173 ✭✭tregan

update on our research ... apparently you can specify when exactly you want to port your number which is great. spoke to wicklow broadband who also said it's quite quick to get the broadband installed

they also offer porting but when i called them they actually work with blueface on this. i called blue face who told me i could port maybe a few days before we move out and you can have the calls transferred to your mobile which suits as we are homeless for a week until we can move into our house in ballymoney.

an engineer will then come to the house when we are there and set all up - so think we are sorted!

thanks for all your help everyone and will let you know how we get on ....

Interesting about the porting part, are Blueface and Vomino some how related?? Because prices with Vomino are better than Blueface.

Porting a plain, line that does not have DSL broadband on it takes 24-48 hours to port through.

Eircom have to release the number in 24 hours and Vomino/digiweb have to port the number to their network in 24 hours. Its a new rule taken in by comreg, and if any one takes too much time, Comreg will intervene.

If you do have dsl broadband you will have to. cancel that off your line.

Also, if you have eircom as your provider, you will have to give notice under your contract with them.
