    I'm buying my first car soon. I have the car selected that I want to get so when I go to the dealer and we agree a price I will have the cash to purchase the car there and then.

    -What documents will I need to bring with me?
    -What documents will I need to sign?
    -What is a typical warranty on a 2006 car from a SIMI registered dealer in good condition?
    -What is the best way to arrange delivery of the car to my house as it obviously wont be taxed & insured on the day?
    -What else should I know before I go to the dealership?

    Thanks.

    The only documents that the dealer will want is cash.

    SIMI means nothing.

    Haggle for as long a WRITTEN warranty as you can push for 6 months and the minimum being 3 months. Get them to write on the sales docket that warranty covers everything except normal wear/tear items.

    Re insurance, transfer your insurance on the day, and sort the tax out after. Bring the receipt with you in case you are stopped by the Guards.

    You will need to sign the vehicle reg document under new owner section

    Edit;

    Make sure that there is a very long NCT! or have a written guarantee that it will pass if its very short!

    I got a quote from quoteme.ie for my personal circumstances and the only insurer that they could get a quote for me has an excess of €3,000 (I have to pay the first €3,000 of any claim). The girl I was talking to also said that they dont invalidate the insurance in the case the accident happens when I am driving alone with a learners permit but of course I want to make sure that is the case and she made reference to quinn as being the insurer that would invalidate the insurance if I was involved in an accident if I was driving alone.

    The quote was from an insurer I think the girl referred to as access direct but after doing a google search the only insurer I can find with a similar name is based in California.

    Can I do better and can you recommend a good broker for a learner permit holder?

    It sounds as if you have decided to buy a particular car before you have actually had it checked out etc, madness really, salesman wet dream. You'll want them to deliver it etc tyou need to decide is the warranty satisfactory before buying etc

    I do have a particular car in mind but I'm not going to go in and tell the dealer to wrap it up. The game will be played and I will see what he will go for. There are a few of the same make and models in dublin with a similar year and mileage so I wont get shafted on the price and warranty.

    XS Direct - based in Dublin (I think, they were originally based in Wexford)
