Just thought i'd let you all know that Joe Barr will be representing Ireland in the 2012 Race Across America (RAAM).

The website is here http://www.teamjoebarr.com/ It's still a work in progress and more info will be posted as it comes in.

Theres also a facebook page http://www.facebook.com/TeamJoeBarr

Joe was the first ever Irish cyclist to win a solo ultra marathon cycle race when he took victory in the 2009 Race Around Ireland (Having to contend with a broken foot for the 2nd half of the race i might add!).

This attempt is not being taken lightly and Joe is going to America to race!

I'm sure any support would be greatly welcomed.

I'm delighted to be part of the team for the race and i hope to keep you all updated on the build-up to the race.

I saw him talking about it on BBC newsline NI a few days ago. It looks like he's going there to win it. I am sure he'll do great, especially with you guys as support.

    Go Joe!!!

Anyone can support this by entering the competition on the website - entry €20 to guess his time, with a chance of winning (amongst other things) a PX Nanolight bike

@emtroche - how do you get hold of the ballot tickets?

I think Joe may be setting up a paypal account for this, although i'm not 100% sure at the moment as it's still early days.

I have tickets myself for sale so people can pm if they would like some and i can arrange to get the tickets to them somehow.

Everything going well here now. Great crew and everybody getting stuck in. Busy day today with inspections and meetings. Heres the second part of our journey. Not very exciting yet but gives a small idea of whats involved.

Awful to read this, but at least he'll recover.

    http://www.stickybottle.com/latest-news/joe-barr-hospitalised-and-forced-out-of-raam-but-full-recovery-expected/
“At the A+E department in the Rio Grande Hospital in Colorado yesterday afternoon, after a thorough examination the condition has been diagnosed as High Altitude Pulmonary Edema (HAPE). Hopefully (Joe is) about to be discharged with an O2 canister and instructions to return to 6,000 feet above sea level – we are currently at 7,850 feet. Joe sends thanks for all the good wishes received from followers.”

    Donations still accepted at http://www.nicfc.com/news/joes-race-across-america/

ltitude sicknes is a potential killer so once it started he had no choice but to stop.
Terrible pity as he seemed in good shape with a great crew.
