Hi all, gearstick is moving in 1st and 3rd upon acceleration/deceleration, also vibrates in 3rd. Anyone with possible/definite causes/solutions to this problem and idea of cost? Thanks.

Sounds like the gearbox is on the way out .They seem to give gearbox trouble around 100,000 km. Expect to change the clutch & DMF also. Can be an expensive job.

Possible cause is worn engine/gearbox mounts which is allowing the engine/gearbox to rock a bit more than normal and this motion is being transmitted back to the lever?

Had clutch dmf replaced earlier on this week. So does seem to be exclusively gearbox or the mounts. Thanks guys.

One mechanic said it's normal enough, another reckons it the rubber mounts the gearbox rests on...

The top gearbox mount wears on them all ,but if this goes you would mostly get the noise when turning right. Sounds like the gearbox.
Another problem is ,if you changed the DMF with a solid conversion type you get more pronounced gear chatter on acceleration. This would not cause the gearstick to move either ! Sound like the gearbox. Hope this helps.!
