this mite be of interest to a few peoiple here..edit.iv no involvment in this event CHARITY FUN RUN - in aid of Seed to Feed,
    Sunday 27 November 2011, in Punchestown Racecourse @ 11.00am
    Registration from 10.15am

As part of a local fund-raising initiative, a group of 115 men and women, ranging in age from 16 to 55yrs, have been taking part in a 'Couch to 5K' programme in Kill for the last 10 weeks. They hope to jog 5K around the Punchestown racecourse on 27 Nov. For many of them it is their first ever running event!

We are looking for racers, runners and casual joggers to join them and support/cajole them over the 5K course. We are also looking for your financial support with a donation of €10 (or whatever you can manage). In order to maximise the amount of money going to charity, this is not a race, with no timing, goodie bags, T-shirts or medals; just a basic fun run with a sense of participating in what is a very big sporting event for a significant number of beginners.

Seed to Feed is a local fund-raising initiative by the communities of Kill, Johnstown and Ardclough. We are aiming to raise a total of €25,000 to set up a potato-seed co-operative in Chencha Province in Ethiopia. The principle involved is that a farmer is given a bag of seed potatoes, and at the end of the harvest he returns two bags to the co-op, and retains the remainder (approx 10-12 bags). The two bags thus returned are then loaned out to other farmers.
This project is being run in conjunction with an EU-funded irrigation project. It is hoped that 7,500 farmers will be providing a stable food supply to 35,000 people within 3 years.

We are extremely grateful to Richie Galway and the staff at Punchestown, and to JF Dunne Insurance, Kill for all their support.

    Dr Philip Aherne
    Committee Member
