Just checking timetables for Waterford to Claremorris & return the next day, one trip changes at Kildare, two on the way back. Every other connection wants you to change by going all the way to Dublin or Limerick

Waterford - Kildare six trains a day both ways
Claremorris - Kildare one train a day both ways

Most regional trains would stop at the closest station to other connecting lines along the way but not IE / Palerail :D

Seems a trip from Waterford to Galway wouldn't be easier, even Cork trains don't seem to like Kildare for some reason?

Does IE have a problem with Kildare & cross country travel?

    Limerick Junction, not Limerick.

The fact is that every service to Claremorris has a connection.

If the Kildare Route project had been completed as far as Cherryville, there would be more scope for most or all trains to stop at one of the Kildare stations. However, as the busiest section of Intercity railway in the country, that luxury isn't available, especially at peak times.

Waterford is a secondary location, Claremorris is a tertiary location and service levels reflect that. It would be rather difficult to justify a huge increase in services.
