    Hi lads

Recently I bought a meteor dongle for my own desktop and it installed and worked no problem whatsoever.

Today my brother dropped out his laptop which needs to be updated as it is about 3 years out of date (windows updates)

When I plug in the dongle to his laptop the software installs without a hitch and then the UI pops up...

When I click connect It gives me an error message "cannot connect make sure the device is inserted and settings are correct"

If I plug it out of his and pop it back into my desktop it works first go?

Also if I try to connect by going into his network and sharing centre it asks for an api code or something followed by a user name and password? I don't have any user name or password and don't know where I would find them?

I tried the dongle on my mothers HP windows7 laptop and it works no problem?

    Any Idea's?

    **edit**

Seems there is a lot more going on here...Tried everything and still no joy then I noticed all of a sudden I was getting a Error 711: cannot load remote access connection manager so I went to manually start the service which was successful but the second I tried to connect the problem happened again even though the service was running?

Also when I started up the laptop for the first time I had to restart the security centre service manually. No malware or viruses present but lots of networking and stopped services problems?

No idea where to go from here

After a lot of red bull and benson I figured out my problem was due to three stopped services...

    Remote Access Auto Connection Manager
    Remote Access Connection Manager
    Telephony

After a bit of luck all managed to start and work...once they were running I tried the dongle and it worked first time.
