I docked the tails of a litter of Springer’s this year it was my first time doing it and it worked out fine. A lot of squealing and a good bit of blood but the pups were fine after it and the tails turned out well.

if your docking you only need to tack 1/3rd of the tail basicly just the tip and make sure you heat up what ever your using to melt the skin back over the wound and it should be fine

    how old is your puppys?;)

If you intend to do it your self here are a few tips
    1. Dock the tails at 3 days old IMO <3 days too young >3 days too old
    2. I use a strong sharp siccors one quick snip
    3. Dip tails in iodine after
    4. Return to bitch asap she will nurse them
    5. Spaniels ~ pull tail down to knee joint on back leg for equal length

    I hope that helps
    These are my opinions

Well my Dad always used a butcher knife so sharp it would shave the hair off your arm,
    1 day old
place the tail on some soft clean wood one slice
    Talcon powder on the tail
    Put back with bitch.

The method is that a day old the bone in the tail is only grizzle,
its good to bleed a little to flush out infection,
Straight back with the bitch the pup will be content the bitch will lick the tail.

I have seen it done a lot, years ago when it wasnt so taboo, never lost a pup not even a runt but sometimes the runt was left untill the second day.

    I don't know u suppose 24 pups in total over 7 years
I'm no expert if you are unsure take bitch and pups to vet but the younger the better I feel if they are v young shock could kill them. IMO
I have never lost a pup after docking ... But I have lost pups .... Unfortunately

Same as that except to say dilute the iodine and also give the scissor a dip in the diluted iodine.
    Works for me.
